My Thoughts On Preseason Football

Preseason football is here and everyone is hype! I'm hype, but I'm hype to an extent. To me, the preseason just doesn't captivate me all that much. In fact, I don't really get supremely excited until around the last game. That's when you see what you can expect from most teams this year. With all that being said, here's my thoughts on what I like and don't like about the preseason.

I think the preseason should be shortened I don't think its fair that season ticket holders have to pay full price for the preseason games where the big stars usually play a series or at the most, a half. I understand teams don't want to get players hurt, but I feel that if players are going to get pulled from the earlier games, then the tickets for these early preseason games should be reduced. If that can't be done, then the games just need to be dropped.

A thing that I do like is the unknown rookie that gets his chance. I don't like the structure of four preseason games, but I will say for all the bore of some of these games, it is good to see guys come out of nowhere to make teams. A guy who can attest to the power of preseason is Titans WR Marc Mariani. Mariani was a late round pick for the Titans who was not expected to make it out of preseason on the Titans roster. Not only did he make the team, he ended up being the one of the best kick returners in the NFL and he also made the Pro Bowl.

In the end, I guess the preseason is a necessary evil to some fans and an essential part of preparation for NFL players. Hopefully the preseason can hurry up from my perspective. When the preseason arrives at its last game, I will be in full football form. The excitement will be there. Until then, I just stew and wait on action to pick up.

  1. I agree, I hardly watch any pre-season, NFL, MLB, NBA, I do glance at stats but thats about it, really pre-season is for players and coaches not fans, really if you think about it.

  2. I LOVE PRESEASON! its like a four course appetizer to the MAIN course, bread-butter,soup,salad,appetizer!!

  3. Totally agree. I sort of enjoy it just to see how the backups are doing but in terms of how good a team it is the pre-season says nothing as evidenced by the Detroit Lions 4-0 preseason prior to their winless 0-16 season.

I agree with you 100% on a price reduction being necessary for these preseason games. On another note I’m not a huge fan of the preseason but I’m so happy to have football I’ll watch happily
