TSU Lady Tigers dominate in exhibition win

The TSU Lady Tigers had their exhibition game Monday night versus the Cincinnati Christian Eagles. Despite many key players like Tia Wooten not playing, the Tigers had no problems winning this game, dominating the Eagles 91-56 at the Gentry Center.

The Tigers came out early and established themselves with a  10-0 run off the opening tip. Sophomore forward Jaden Wrightsell would pace them early with six points as the Lady Tigers would go out to an early lead 27-10 lead.

The Lady Tigers lost a little momentum early on in the second quarter, but they would pick it up in the second half of the quarter, going on a 13-0 run to close the half and extend their lead to 50-23.

From there, the Lady Tigers controlled the rest of the game, putting pressure on the Eagles and forcing them into 37 turnovers for the game. "Our goal is to make you as uncomfortable as possible and speed up the tempo of play overall. With several players who play several positions, it makes it a bit easier to scheme defensively."

Another bright spot for the Lady Tigers was the bench, scoring 45 points for the game while creating turnovers and just bringing energy.

Coach Jessica Kern was definitely aware of the play of her subs, "Our bench was sparked by rebounds from Cebria Outlow, continued deflections by Jasmine Broner, crisp passes by Terrisha Banner and a solid performance by Jasmine Young. Bench production will be key for us as the season progresses. "

The Tigers were led by sophomore Jaden Wrightsell with 22 points and 13 rebounds and Kern had high praise for her sophomore forward. " Jaden has a bright future as a Lady Tiger. She was aggressive on both ends of the floor. She is due for a breakout year after a trying freshman season," said Kern. She would also have this to say about Wrightsell, "I am very pleased with her positive attitude, infectious energy and ability to shift into another great especially when her team needs her."

The Tigers open the official regular season on Friday, November 9th versus the Lipscomb Lady Bison. It should be interesting to see how things work out as the Lady Tigers move more and more to what Jessica Kern is looking for: positionless basketball.
