The Lady Tigers fight, but come up short to Belmont

The TSU women, fresh off their first OVC win, headed to Belmont to take on the Lady Bruins. The Lady Tigers fought hard, but unfortunately they were not able to pull out the win, losing 70-58 to the Lady Bruins.

The Lady Tigers started out quick, getting a 16-11 lead before the Lady Bruins made a run to take a 17-16 lead in the second quarter. The Tigers would fight back though, as Jayden Wrightsell would continue to battle against the Belmont bigs as she staked the Lady Tigers to a 27-22 lead with 4:33 left in the second quarter. Both teams would go back and forth during the first half and with a late surge by the Lady Bruins, Belmont would take a 32-31 lead to the locker room.

The Lady Bruins would come out after halftime and outscore the Lady Tigers 8-3, giving them a 40-34 lead with 6:54 left in the third quarter. The Lady Tigers would fight back though, getting a bucket from Wrightsell out of the media timeout. Wrightsell would take it coast-to-coast after a steal and bring TSU even closer, 40-38, with 4:37 left in the third quarter. After closing to within two points, the Lady Bruins began to pick it up again offensively, getting out to a 49-43 lead until a Terrysha Banner three brought TSU to within three points. A layup from Belmont would stretch the lead back out to five points, 51-46, as we headed into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, that's when the Lady Bruins took over, as they took out to a 65-51 lead with 2:13 left in the fourth quarter and never looked back, winning the game 70-58.

Jaden Wrightsell led the Lady Tigers with 19 points and nine rebounds.
